Hmm...I like some of the riffs, and the sound is pretty good overall. Is that EZDrummer? The only problem is that the lyrics are...a touch unpolished to put it mildly. There's some good word-painting, but it doesn't actually make anything clear beyond "You lie, and have weird religious thoughts, there's something wrong with you, and I don't like you." As a listener, I want to know how she put god in a bottle...what she lied about...how she scared your friends away. What's it mean? What's it say about life? What's it say about God? What the heck is auto conception?!?Find words to answer those questions and the song would be awesome.

But...you probably wrote this to put in song about someone who pissed you off. So, the song did its job. So, don't pay any attention to me anyways.

It's Fruityloop's FPC, I use the Gretch Full preset. If you look under Scores and then FPC drumloops, there's roughly 1700 different midi files. They're well organized but some of them will need a little bit of TLC to fit your song's needs.

Thanks a lot for the insight on the vocals! I'll be sure to make lots of notes next time to be sure I'm delivering an understandable message to the audience.
I always appreciate any feedback!

Just to clarify this song was made as a gift for my friend, something to speak for him about his frustrations. He was in a relationship with a woman who's mother went around trying to destroy his life because his face resembled her ex-husband's, and used her religion to justify her actions.

This is awesome. it just does what it says on the can, you know? It could get annoying if it looped more than a few minutes, but I really like what you did with this.

retrobox2 responds:

Thanks! and yeah it is a really short loop made specially for a minigame so it's not meant to be playing for minutes!

Wow...those sounds are really hard to listen to! I really thought the packaged Sibelius sounds were better than that. Which is a shame, because you have some really good ideas! I gave it 3 stars as a balance between the two: for ideas and arrangement, I'd give you 4 or 5 stars.

Keep writing...you'll just keep getting your skills up, and once you get some sounds worth your time, you'll be able to really knock it out.

thefadedcreed responds:

Hey, thanks for the review. Thank you for being able to see past the terrible sounds. I am going to purchase EastWest's Symphonic Orchestra soon which will be nice and I will do a re-upload of the piece then :)

Yeah, man...pretty epic. The build was maybe a little bit too long (2:30 before the kick drops the first time??) but I guess you're just operating on a grand scale here! I love all the sounds and the general mix, though.

TerraNation responds:

yea i working on it, almost getting there few elements that needs to be changed :)

I think a good recording of this song could be pretty good, since there's some nice indie-rock vibe things going on, but there are a number of things that kept me from liking it too much: The vocals were difficult to make out, there are a number of timing issues between the two plucked instruments (guitar and mandolin?) that detract from the vibe, and the overall production is kind of claustrophobic and pinched.

Not to say that it's a bad song at all; It's just a no-go for me as it is here.

polarpoole responds:

All of the points you're making are pretty accurate. I recorded the entire song in one sitting in the space of about two hours so the recording process was pretty messy. It was just a guitar, no mandolin. I have used a mandolin before but not on this track in particular.

Thanks for listening, anyway. It's always nice to hear some feedback, regardless of whether it's positive or not.

Not a bad track at all...hopefully that doesn't sound terribly condescending! There are some good riffs here, and the song overall works. The biggest problem I have is the lack of dynamics. Obviously this is metal, so I'm talking more about Loud vs. Louder vs. Loudest dynamics, but maybe a little more variation of RMS levels, and some more options in the sound of the guitars would go a very long way.

I guess the real verdict is that I enjoy it enough while I'm listening, but I always feel that there's more possibility than has been realized directly. I'd definitely want to check out more by your band...

idfpower responds:

He he, no problem, I can take critics - especially when it's constructive input :)

You're right about the dynamics, but we're talking about an album recorded on a very tight budget. On the other hand, we had some serious issues during mastering and we've almost lost the sessions, so the only solution was to use some older backups and cutting off the effects - all that took a toll on the album's dynamics, but we've decided to go with a not perfectly sounding album as opposed to no album at all :)

Thank you for the review, much appreciated :)

Sounds pretty good...my only real complaints are that the beginning goes on a little bit too long (or do I just need too much instant gratification?!?), and that some of the sounds are a bit static at times. Maybe a little mod-wheel tweaking at some point would liven up the soundscape?

Composition, Sound Design, overall concept are really good, and the mix is very appealing. There are a good variety of ideas, and they're connected logically and organically. Good stuff.

idfpower responds:

Thank you very much :) Yeah, there's always room for improvement :) All the best :)
